World Refugee Day

Peace by Pax

Smoke fills the air, the sound of gun-shots, panic outside your window……all that matters is grabbing your child’s hand to flee toward safety.

This is the story of a refugee.

Homes destroyed, families separated, jobs evaporated. Reaching the border carrying nothing but trauma and the hope of kindness.

In Jordan, over 660,000 Syrian refugees have officially sought safety; over 140,000 have settled in camps; and 93% live on less than $1.90 per day (World Vision, 2019).

Umm al-Jimal is home to the second largest Syrian Refugee camp. Over 461,701 refugees have passed through this camp and over 78,994 refugees are here today. An entire generation’s standard of living is set back by decades (World Vision, 2019).

But in the streets of Umm al-Jimal, children walk together to school and ride their bikes around for fun. Toothbrushes become drumsticks and buckets become drums. Safety allows children to be children.

How can we walk with refugees today?

One small step is to donate to Pax which seeks to educate Syrian Refugees who have sought safety in Umm al-Jimal.
